Parent & Guardian Guide

Built With Families in Mind

Welcome to the JML Transit Parent & Guardian Guide. We know that transportation is about more than just getting from point A to point B—it's about the safety, comfort, and care of your loved ones.

This guide provides everything you need to know about our future services, safety protocols, and how we support our youngest riders and those with disabilities.

⚠️ PRE-LAUNCH NOTICE: JML Transit is currently in the pre-launch phase and not yet operating. All procedures listed are planned for our future launch (Target 2030+).

Current Service Status

Status: Pre-Launch / Planning Phase. JML Transit is not currently accepting riders or providing transportation services.

🚧

Our Parent & Guardian Guide is designed to ensure a smooth, safe, and transparent experience for families. From the first ride to daily routines, we prioritize communication and the unique needs of every student rider.

Preparing for the First Ride

  • Talk with your child about bus safety.
  • Review the route and schedule provided by JML Transit.
  • Meet the driver during our scheduled Pre-Launch meet-and-greets.
  • Ensure your child knows their stop and who is authorized to pick them up.

Future Pickup Procedures

  • Riders should be ready at the designated stop 5-10 minutes early.
  • Drivers will wait a maximum of 3 minutes after the scheduled time.
  • Authorized adults must be visible for Pre-K and designated riders.

Future Drop-Off Procedures

  • Pre-K and special needs riders will only be released to authorized adults.
  • Riders must remain seated until the bus comes to a complete stop.
  • Drivers will verify identification for any unfamiliar authorized adults.

If No Authorized Adult Is Present

If an authorized adult is not present for a required hand-off, the rider will remain on the bus. The driver will continue the route and contact dispatch, who will then coordinate with the parent/guardian for a safe resolution or return to the base.

Student Rider Expectations

  • Listen to and follow the driver's instructions.
  • Remain seated and use seatbelts if provided.
  • Keep hands and feet to yourself.
  • Use quiet voices and respectful language.
  • Respect the privacy and personal space of other riders.

Family Safety Reminders

  • Always supervise children at the bus stop.
  • Teach children to wait for the bus to stop before approaching.
  • Remind children to never walk behind the bus.
  • Ensure children wear bright or reflective clothing in low-light conditions.
Pre-K Transportation Support

We offer specialized support for Pre-K riders, including child-safety restraint systems and drivers trained in early childhood care and redirection.

Support for Riders With Disabilities

JML Transit is committed to inclusive transit. We provide curb-to-curb service and drivers trained in supporting neurodiversity and physical disabilities.

Wheelchairs and Mobility Devices

Future vehicles will be equipped with ADA-compliant lifts or ramps and securement systems for wheelchairs and other mobility aids.

How Communication May Work

We plan to use a combination of SMS alerts, app notifications, and parent portaling to keep families informed about arrival times and service changes.

Weather and Emergency Updates

In the event of severe weather or emergencies, service updates will be broadcast via our app and local community news partners.

If the Vehicle Is Running Late

Active alerts will be sent if a vehicle is delayed by more than 10 minutes. Families can also track the vehicle location through our planned rider portal.

Lost and Found

Items left on the bus will be secured. Parents can contact our central office to identify and arrange recovery of lost items.

Reporting a Concern

Your voice matters. Families can report any safety or service concerns via our feedback portal or by calling our dedicated safety line. Every report will be investigated thoroughly.

Student Privacy and Respect

We protect the privacy of every rider. Onboard footage and rider data are strictly confidential and used only for safety and service improvement purposes.
